How To...Create New Lines in EPM 10.0 Using BPC 10.1 Embedded Model

When using BPC 10.1 (Embedded Model) and the EPM client 10.0 it is currently not possible to create new lines in a report that is based on a BW query. Obviously this is a feature that is crucial for a planning application. Until a proper solution is provided this How to paper will show how new lines can be created with the help of a BW planning function.

How to Create RSTT trace for Analysis of Planning Objects in Analysis Office

RSTT trace is the necessary information to analyze the Integrated Planning issue(See KBA 1904455, 1904955 and 2045393). However, some customers don’t realize the importance, or cannot provide the useful trace for the issue, which delay the issue solving process. If this job needs to be done by SAP AGS support processor, sometimes we have to get the trace permission and more connections than R/3 support connection, e.g. BW GUI/RFC connection and/or HTTP connections. Additionally, the given userid to analyze the issue needs to assign suitable authorization and role to replicate the same issue as the end user, which takes more time and effort to confirm between customer and SAP relevant experts. This article will show how to provide a useful RSTT trace for Integrated Planning issue with an example

New: How To...Use a Debugging Script to Easily Create a Test Environment for a SQL-Script Planning Function in PAK

In the Planning Application Kid it is possible to use planning functions that are written as SQL-Script procedures. These procedures can replace planning functions that are created using ABAP, as ABAP based planning functions cannot run in memory. In an older How to Paper (https://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-53377) we have already described a solution how a test environment in HANA Studio for such procedures can be created using a planning function. In the current paper we want to explain a more recent and easier method to reach the same goal.

New: How-to-Guide: Enhancing an Input-Ready Query with a Comments Column in Integrated Business Planning for SAP Simple Finance

SAP customers who use Integrated Business Planning for financial planning in Management Accounting are often in the situation that they want to add comments to their plan data. With SAP NetWeaver 7.40 SP08 and SAP Business Objects Analysis 1.4.9, input-ready queries for planning can be enhanced with additional columns in which users can make comments. This How-To guide describes step-by-step, using an example, how customers can enhance the content delivered by SAP for financial planning in Management Accounting with SAP Integrated Business Planning to use comment columns in input-ready queries.

New:How-to... Provisional Master Data in Integrated Business Planning for SAP Simple Finance

SAP customers who use Integrated Business Planning for financial planning in Management Accounting are often in the situation that key figures are to be planned for master data that does not yet exist in the tables of the ERP system. This How-To guide uses a concrete example to show, step-by-step, how additional characteristic values can be defined that function in financial planning of Management Accounting as provisional master data and can be planned, but do not yet exist in the tables of the ERP system.

How to... Use SQLScript for Planning Functions in PAK

The Planning Applications Kit is capable to execute calculation used in planning functions in memory and thus greatly accelerates the execution. Unfortunately not all planning functions can be executed in memory, especially custom defined planning functions using ABAP. This paper shows how such planning functions can be developped usiong SQL-Script

How To...Easily Create a Test Environment for a SQL-Script Planning Function in PAK

In the Planning Application Kid it is possible to use planning functions that are written as SQL-Script procedures. These procedures can replace planning functions that are created using ABAP, as ABAP based planning functions cannot run in memory.

In this paper we show a convenient way to create  a test environment directly in SAP HANA so development and testing of such procedures can be facilitated.

How To...Use Data from another Aggregation Level in a PAK SQL-Script Procedure - Implemented as an AMDP Example

In planning functions it is often necessary to use data that does not lie within the aggregation level. This data can be stored in the InfoCube as well or in a data base table. One example might be a table storing rates and a planning function that multiplies a key figure value with the corresponding rate.
In Fox formulas it is currently not possible to use such ‘external’ data within a planning function. Only such kind of data can be used that can be selected on the given aggregation level (maybe by building a MultiProvider over different InfoProviders). Thus for the given use case the planning functions are often realized as custom defined planning functions (‘ABAP Exit functions’) or by using ABAP function module calls in a Fox formula. Unfortunately both types of planning functions cannot be executed in memory and the planning functions cannot profit from the performance boost that SAP HANA offers.

With BW 7.40 SP6 and notes 1976514 and 1976522 it is now possible to easily access such data in a SQL-Script procedure. In this paper we show you how this can be done.

How to... Build a Planning Function that Copies Comments and Data Records in BW

In How to Paper…Build a Fast and Flexible Comment Solution for BEx Web Applications ( see http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-16133) we have introduced a concept for comments in SAP NetWaver BW BEx Web applications. In a second paper we have described a planning function that can be used to delete records together with the comments created with the above mentioned solution (see https://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-30197).  In the current paper we now introduce a planning function that can be used to copy data records together with the comments created with the comment solution.

How To...Realize Easy In-Cell Calculations in SAP BusinessObjects Analysis for Office

SAP BusinessObjects Analysis for Office can be used as an Excel planning front end (in conjunction with BW-IP or PAK). When planners change their plan data they do not only want to enter the absolute number in the systems. Sometimes they want to raise the value in a certain cell by say 10% or want to raise the existing value by a certain increment. As PAK and BW-IP expect absolute numbers the user has to calculate the number in a little side calculation. In this paper we show how a simple solution can be realized where the planner can enter a simply formula and apply this to one or several cells in the worksheet. This functionality is often referred to as 'pocket calculation'.

How to... Log Changes in Plan Data when using the SAP NetWeaver BW Planning Applications Kit

In the How to Paper - Log Changes in Plan Data Using DataStore Objects (see http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-16124) we have given an example how to use the Logging BAdI in SAP NetWeaver BW-IP.  This paper is building on this How to Paper and describes how the logging functionality can now also be used in conjunction with HANA and the Planning Applications Kit (in memory planning on SAP NetWeaver BW).

In How-to Guide...Build a Fast and Flexible Comment Solution for BEx Web Applications we have introduced a concept for comments in SAP NetWaver BW BEx Web applications. In a second paper we have described a planning function that can be used to delete records together with the comments created with the above mentioned solution. In the current paper we now introduce a planning function that can be used to copy data records together with the comments created with the comment solution

How to... Build a Planning Function that Deletes Comments in BW

In our how to paper How To Build a Fast and Flexible Comment Solution for BEx Web Applications we have introduced a solution for using comment in BEx Web Templates. In the current paper we introduce a planning function that can delete data records together with the comments created with the mentioned solution in one step. (July 2012)

How To... Build a Fast and Flexible Comment Solution for BEx Web Applications (PDF 1 MB)

When analyzing BW data or especially when planning new key figure values using BW Integrated Planning there is a need to enter some comments to explain the entered values or add some text information to key figures. In this paper we will describe a flexible yet simple to use solution for using comments in BEx Web Applications. 09 Dec 2010 ( Updated July 2012)

Note: This paper has been revised and updated in July 2012. It now offers a much more general solution (most restrictions on the query have been eliminated) and also additional features. Also a number of problems have been solved. It is strongly recommended to use this new version of the paper.

How To...Build up a Simple Offline Planning Scenario in SAP BusinessObjects Analysis for Office (PDF 591 KB)

This How to Paper shows how to implement a simple offline planning solution using BW-IP or ABAP Planning Applications Kit with SAP BusinessObjects Analysis for Office. It describes how workbooks are built where the user can change plan data offline and later synchronize the data again with the BW server. By Gerd Schoeffl. 20 January 2012

How To... Execute a Planning Function on Selected Lines in an Analysis for Office Workbook (PDF 787 KB)

When using planning functions in a planning application the user often wants to interactively narrow down which are the numbers or records that the planning function should change. In this how to paper we show an example for a planning application built with SAP BusinessObjects Analysis for Office and SAP NetWeaver BW Integrated Planning where the user can select one or several lines in a data source (query) and execute a predefined planning function on these records. 12 October 2011

How To... Log Changes in Plan Data Using DataStore Object (PDF 577 KB)

In many planning project it is not only necessary to create new plan data but also to keep track how this new data originated. Thus a mechanism is necessary that logs all changes done in the plan data – either when new data is created or existing data is changed. Usually the logging information contains information about the user who has done the changes and the date and time when these changes where performed. This paper gives an example how the new logging BAdI delivered with SAPNetWeaver 7.0 EHP1 (SP6) can be used to log information about these changes in a DataStore Object. As the example is very generic the contained coding can be easily adapted to a given customer scenario. 11 May 2010

How To... Flexibly Change Characteristic Values and Comments in BI Integrated Planning (PDF 661 KB)

BI Integrated Planning concentrates mainly on key figure planning. Nevertheless there is quite often the need to manually change the characteristic values of a record during the planning process. This how-to paper describes a technique that can be used by the end user to replace characteristic values in records either by choosing existing values from a drop down box or by entering new values (for a characteristic without master data) in an input field. Thus this technique can be used to do a lightweight master data planning. The how-to paper explains the underlying technique and gives a step by step description on how this techniques can be used in a Web template. 08 Nov 2009

How To... Dynamically Set Data Providers in SAP NetWeaver BW Planning Applications (PDF 510 KB)

It is very common that within a planning application several plan queries are used. For usability and performance reasons, these queries are usually placed on different tab strips (BEx Web) or Worksheets (BEx Analyzer). An easy example could be a revenue planning where the end user can enter the prices, the sold volumes, and can view the calculated revenue. The end user starts with entering the prices on the first tab strip and moves then on to the second tab strip with the sales volumes and the calculated revenue. In this How to Paper, we will show how the performance of such planning applications can be improved. 30 Jun 2009

How To... Run Planning Functions on Changed Records in SAP NetWeaver BW Integrated Planning (PDF 508 KB)

In planning projects we often deal with a great number of plan data for the entire project. The single planners usually are also responsible for a great amount of data but often only change a small subset of this data. Which data will be changed by the user cannot be foreseen. On the other hand the number of touched records is a crucial parameter that drives the performance of planning functions. Thus the number of those records should be restricted as much as possible. This how to paper will show how to model a system where the records changed by the user will be marked by a flag. The flag can then be used to build up a minimal selection for the planning function. 25 Jan 2009

How To... Build up a Simple Offline Planning Scenario in Bex Analyzer (PDF324KB)

Often users want to be able to have a simple offline planning solution. They want to open their normal Bex Analyzer Workbooks, save them locally on the disc and want to enter new data offline. At a later point of time they want to log on to the system again by starting the Bex Analyzer, open the locally saved workbook, and save the changed data to the system. It is crucial that there is no separate offline solution but that the same workbooks as in online planning are used. This paper will show how to use some macros to enable such a solution. 04 Dec 2008

How To...Copy and Paste in BEx Web Applications (PDF 230 KB)

You are using BEx Web Applications for planning. As the data to be entered is frequently taken from other sources like MS Excel you like to paste values into cells of the input ready query. How  To... Use Work-Packages to Control Locking in BI Integrated Planning (PDF 565 KB)

In planning projects we typically have the situation that each user is responsible for a certain work-package. These work-packages usually also depend on the planning application. The work packages of two different users might be disjoint or they might overlap. For latter case, locking conflicts may arise. This how-to paper shows how work-packages can be modeled efficiently to avoid locking issues. 03 Dec 2007

Characteristic relationships on HANA DB with ABAP

Hi SAP Gurus,

at the moment we have a problem with characteristic relationship derivement in BI-IP after migration from SAP BW 740 SP5 non HANA to SAP BW 740 SP8 with HANA DB.

Our class works perfect in the old enviroment, but after migration to Hana we don't get any result . The system calls IF_RSPLS_CR_METHODS~DERIVE method and write a result to l_s_mesg. But afterwards I see no derived value on database.

PAK is not activated yet.

Any Ideas? May one of you had that problem before

Many thanks for you help in advance.

Cheers

Christoph

Characteristic Description in Planning Function

Hi,

char in dso planning - key or data field?

$

Hi everyone,

I just tried to create a DSO planning.

I want to use the DSO because we want to read the data out of there using a function module to transfer the data to ECC and it is easier to do this with the DSO table instead of a cube.

I have put some char into key fields and some char and key figures into data fields.

key figures are summable, char do have attributes.

most of the char in data fields should be filed with derivation rules later.

now when I try to have some data records created with a planning function, the function works well in planning modeler with trace.

but if I want to save the data, I get the error message

Kategorie              ABAP-Programmierfehler

Laufzeitfehler         UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION

Ausnahme               CX_RSR_PROPAGATE_X

ABAP Programm          CL_RSR_BASE===================CP

Anwendungskomponente   BW-BEX-OT

I think it is, because I read something in SAP help, that char in data fields will be used for this "char as key figure planning" which I don´t have yet, because I am on 7.3

If I move the char to key fields I get error messages, because some of the char will stay empty and the error says, that key fields may not be empty.

So the question is - can I use char with attributes as data fields? Then what do i do about this error message?

If I have to have them as key fields, why can I not use # as a value?

thanks

Lock Management in BI Integrated Planning

What are the overall effects when changing the lock attempts and wait time in seconds for lock management in RSPLSE?

We are occasionally encountering overload for lock server for our process chain for planning. And I found note 928044  which suggested increasing the lock attempts and wait time.

Is there a clear way to calculate how much wait time and lock attempts is needed to avoid the error?

Planning On Hierarchy

Hello Experts,

I have created a input ready query and its working perfectly fine.

But, as soon as I choose a Characterstic "Material" and activate the hierarchy built in BW over it, and I run the query the query says No DATA.

The data is there because, if i deactivate the Hier the data comes back.

Kindly help, as I want to do the planning on Hierarchy leaf level.

Aggregation level is inconsistent

$

Hi All,

We have SAP BW 7.31 and I have a problem with a tool for business to load data using SAP portal. As we have BW 7.31 I create a DU DSO with planning functions. I added some Characteristics (with and without mastedata) and one Key Figure. Everithng works fine, but now I need to add a characteristic for comments. I created a new one - CHAR (45) without masterdata and added to my DU DSO. After that I can't activate my aggregation level:

"Data type CHA is not valid for data field HCCOMMENT of DSO HOPROD"

"Aggregation level HAPROD is inconsistent"

I changed my "comment" characteristic - now it's with masterdata, but aggregation level still can't be activated.

Maybe someone had the same problem.

BI IP - Exit Planning Functions - Execute Method - c_th_data

$

Hi,

I have developed new exit planning function  using standard revaluation function type in integrated planning.

When I have executed this new planning function though planning sequence in planning modeler, I could see only one record in the c_th_data table in the debug mode. ts_block_data table  holds full set of records which are passed one by one to the cth_data in the execute method. ts_block_data is not a parameter in  the execute method so it is not visible in the execute method.

Is it possible to have all records available in c_th_data  instead of one record?  This will facilitate simple calculations based processing the entire data set  and also generate new records like xth_data table in BW-BPS exit planning functions.

One of the requirements is to sum up key figures based on the specific  characteristic combinations  and generate another record with new characteristic combination which is not possible if I have access to only one record.

Any alternative solutions or information or how to guides related to this area would greatly be appreciated.

Venkata

Lookup in FOX using REFDATA

Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to do a look up in FOX to read Prices from another DSO. In my case, I won't be able to use "|" method as I need to loop Reference Data to apply some conditions. Prices DSO has the data at granularity customer & material, validity dates, price type. Filter was restricted to Plan DSO. Pricing DSO is already part of MP and Agg Level.

I don't see my code is working... even in debugging XF_REF_DATA internal table has Plan Data, not reference data. Am i missing something? I can see reference data for "|" method. Please let me know if you need more information. Thanks a lot for all your help.

Code:

CURDATE = VARV( 0DAT ).

FOREACH MATERIAL, CUSTOMER.

FOREACH MATERIAL_REF, CUSTOMER_REF,CALDAY_REF, CALDAY_FR, CALDAY_TO, CURRENCY, KNART IN REFDATA.

  IF MATERIAL_REF = MATERIAL AND

       CURDATE >= CALDAY_FR AND

       CURDATE <= CALDAY_TO.

How to pass Query Variables to Planning sequence in Analysis for Office

$

Hello all,

We have a Integrated Planning workbook, where different Excel form buttons are used to execute Planning Sequences. These button actions are implemented using VBA modules.

What i am trying to understand is "how do we pass Query variables to the PS filter?". When executing the PS i am getting error "Specify a value for Reporting Period XXX"

If we are using same Variable in Query  & in PS Filter,  why does not it consider the value entered through Prompt?

There are settings in Components tab, but there is no-way to assign it directly to a variable. And i am also not sure how I can pass the variable value in VBA code using SETPLANPARAMETER command.

Version:

BW: 7.4 SP8

AFO: 1.4.9

Please let us know, if there is a standard was of doing this.

Copy function on Direct Update DSO issue

$

Hi Experts,

We are facing an issue while copying data to Direct Update DSO(Planning Enabled).

We are trying to copy data from real time infocube into planning dso (aggregation level based on composite provide which is union of realtime infocube and planning dso).

If all the keyfigures values are 0 in the infocube, then those records are not copied to the planning dso.

Whereas if the key figures has values, then those records are copied.

We have used the standard copy function.

When exceuting the planning sequence for copy function, the empty records are read but the combinations are not copied.(Ex: 11100 records read, 0 generated, 0 changed).

Also checked the settings of the standard planning function. Process Empty Records checkbox is enabled.

Yet when Keyfigures are 0, those records are not copied.

Is this the Planning DSO limiation?

Any pointers will be of great help.

Thanks in advance.

Priyanka

Issue with “Fast and Flexible Comment Solution for BEx Web Applications” when setting “Column Header Visible” = “Off” in the Properties of Web item “Analysis” in WAD

$

Hi all,

we are using the “Fast and Flexible Comment Solution…” described in the SAP How To document:

http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/300aaaf5-c1e5-2d10-92b1-9106310f7c1c?QuickLink=index&overridelayout=true&59575491515420

We are facing the following issue: When Switching “Off” the checkbox “Column Header Visible” in Web Application Designer in the Analysis Item

-> The comments are not shown (anymore) in the corresponding column of the report. When Switching “On” the “Column Header Visible” checkbox the Comments are shown.

Background: As we use several analysis items (queries)  in the Web template only the first analysis item should display the header lines.

For me it is not understandable that the settings in the properties concerning "Column Header Visible" has any effects on retrieving the

comments out of the table lying behind as the linking of the comments is not done via the header lines of the data but the contents of the

relevant cells.

Does anyone of you know: why does this behaviour occur and how to solve it?

Used Release: SAP BW Release 731 Patch-Level 5

Thanks a lot in advance.

Start a process chain when a request is closed

$

Hi experts,

We have two real-time infocubes and we would like to retract them to another BW system. Our idea would be to retract request as soon as they are closing.

Is it possible? I was thinking in two possibilities:

  • Raise an event whenever a request is closed.

But I don't find any badis or user-exits where insert this code.

  • Use Real Time Data Adquisition (RDA).

But I don't know if it will meet my requirements. I have tried to follow this guide:

     http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/b05895f6-a4bc-2c10-bbad-96d8a341de78?QuickLink=index&overridelayout=true&45896020788918

But when I try to define the delta extractor, "Numerical pointer" does not appear (I suppose because it is a Function Module based extractor).

BW Workspaces and Integrated Planning Not working together !

$

Hi,

I have a planning ready query based on Integrated Planning. The data model is Cube -> Multiprovider - > Aggregation level -> Query.

Material (0MATERIAL) is one of the many characteristics that is part of the planning query.

I want to add some 15 attributes to material without changing the info-object or the data model.

These attributes and their values are available in a flatfile/excel.

I tried using BW workspaces by uploading the data into a Local Provider. I made the multi-provider as the central provider in TCODE RSWSP.

Using Advanced Analysis front-end I tried to combine the Local provider with the Bex Query. The resulting report is no longer input ready !!

IS IT EVEN POSSIBLE TO USE WORKSPACES TO ENHANCE AN INPUT READY QUERY ??

If yes, please guide me here ?

Regards,

Dheeraj

I have the latest and greatest version of everything - SAP BW 7.4, HANA, Advanced Analysis.. etc.

IP Comment solution (How To Document) - not showing comments in column

Hi there,

I've just implemented the solution drescribed in the How To Paper "How To... Build a Fast and Flexible Comment Solution for BEx Web Applications" and so far, it works quite well, except of one crucial thing: the comments are NOT shown in the defined comment_column of the query.

If I jump to the RRI-target or double-click the column cell, the BSP application is shown with the correct comment, but it is not shown directly in the web.

Does anyone of you know, what could be wrong or where to start analysing?

Thanks a lot

I think it is aggregating the data in a different way than the key figure as it is a characteristic used as a key figure.

The key figure is working as expected and always saving the new value entered using the formula variable.

But, the characteristic is causing and error and short dump related to SID not found with the above design.

Thanks for any hints to solve the issue.

Hi All,

We need to enhance palnning layout rendering to CRM from BW BPS. We found BAdi Exit UPX_RENDER_LAYOUT for the same. But , we dont know, how and where can we implement this BAdi, so that it works for our custom layout? please provide some pointers on steps to do.

What we need to fo?

1. We have created a custom layout for product planning , in which we need to add attibute Brand as well. This works well with BW-BPS, But it doesn't work with planning services to CRM.

We found SAP note saying, use BAdi UPX_RENDER_LAYOUT. But, we couldn't find how to implement it for custom layouts?

please provide your suggestions.

Thanks and Regards,

Harpal

Submit a program in Characteristic Relationship Exit Derive Method

Hello all,

I have a requirement a bit complicated and my solution is not working as i expect. Maybe someone here had a similar issue or requirement, i want to hear some new ideas.

My Requirement :

- In my data model, an infoobject has to be filled with Characteristic Relationship exit.

- When it is filled, i also need to populate attributes of this infoobject and do an attribute change run.

Problem :

- I can not add attribute population and attribute changerun code to derive method, because it is taking long time, and i don t want users to wait for it, as it is not crucial for data input, for crucial just for reporting.

My Solution :

- I created an ABAP Program which populates attributes for newly created object value and runs the attribute changerun, and i call this program as "Submit program via Job and return", so in saving process i will just launch a new job which will run the program, but it will not take time for user.

However, saving is not getting completed until the submitted program ends.

I got an ABAP Expert check my code and logic and it seems to be fine. I suppose there is something wrong in placing my code maybe.

I would like to hear your comments and recommendations.

Thanks all in advance

BW Integrated Planning - Copy only query grid data

Hello,

I'm developing a cost center planning report using BW IP.

My doubt is.

I created a standard copy function and I want to execute this function to copy data (actual to plan version) only for the data previously displayed in the input-ready query. The problem is that the function copy everything from the cube A(real data) to the cube B(plan data).

When the user runs the query for the first time, he/she fill the two characteristics: Year and Cost Center. So, I want the copy function copy data for the new version (user will inform) only for the data already filtered (ex: costcenter: CC01 / Year: 2015).

Does everybody knows how to do this?

Regards,

Thiago
